Oatmeal in Your Beauty Routine

Think oatmeal is only for breakfast? Think again. There are many ways you can use oatmeal in your everyday beauty routine. You may keep oatmeal in your pantry, but keep some on hand in your beauty stash as well. Try some of these great ways to make oatmeal part of your beauty routine.

Did you know that oatmeal works great as an exfoliator? Oatmeal makes a great scrub for your facial skin. Mix one-half cup milk, 2 tbsp oatmeal, 1 tbsp honey and 1 tbsp of olive oil. Stir this together and mix very well. Take 1-2 minutes and scrub the mixture all over your face. Rinse off in warm water and your face will look fresh and clean.

Try a body scrub made with oatmeal next. All you need is baking soda and some oatmeal. Mix equal parts of each and add some warm water. Let this mixture sit in the water until the oatmeal softens. This mixture is great to scrub all over the body. Your skin will come out so soft and smooth you won’t believe it. Your skin will thank you!

Dry shampoo can come in handy, but your can make a great one at home with oatmeal, too. This dry shampoo mix will help your hair look good even if you have to skip washing it. The first thing you need to do is grind up some oats until they become a very fine powder. You need to have about one-half of a cup of this powdery mix. Once you have this, just add 1 tbsp of cornstarch and mix it together. That is it! You now have some dry shampoo on hand for those days you might need it.

If you want to add some scent to this dry shampoo, feel free. You can use a couple drops of any essential oil you like. Lavender smells great, but you can use any scent you prefer. If your hair is darker, you will want to add a bit of cocoa powder so it blends in better.

Take the mixture and rub all over hair, or just at the rootline- wherever you need it to go. A wide-tooth comb works best to comb it through your hair. Oatmeal is a natural grease and oil remover, which is why it works so well on your head!
